SoCal Architecture Complements The Fine Lines Of A Mercedes Benz

February 5, 2016
611 Anton Mercedes Benz lifestyle photo shoot with edgy lifestyle photographer John Ussenko.

Ideas started popping in my head the day I decided to use my Carlsson Mercedes as a prop. It’s a pretty cool prop to have and definitely brings a certain element to each photo shoot.  There’s something about seeing a beautiful car next to some amazing architecture. And I didn’t have to drive far to find 611 Anton, it’s right next to South Coast Plaza, also known as the other Rodeo Drive. I honestly didn’t realize how many awesome buildings are here until I started looking for places to have a photo shoot.  I’m happy that security didn’t rush out and kick me off the property, they tend to do that. It’s a good day.

Shadow Art w/ Simon Spurr Sportcoat, Official Crown of Laurel, and Body Rags

February 1, 2016
Simon Spurr and Body Rags fashion shoot with street fashion photographer, John Ussenko in Huntington Beach.

I’m in a great mood and sharing some of my art, personal fashion styles, and brands with all of you. Plain and simple. And I love what I did with this fashion shoot. Best one yet!  I discovered this narrow alley in Huntington Beach off the PCH.  It was mid-day and time to try out a few concepts with shadows.  This is one of my very first Simon Spurr sportcoats that I purchased way back in the day. It has that punk rock kind of look and of course my friends can always find me when it’s dark outside.  The Body Rags tshirt happens to be one of my favorite designs and you’ll see me in it a lot. I’ll have to remember not to do so many fashion shoots with it on though.  If you’re interested, you can buy all this gear HERE   and you’ll get a free $20 for the sign up.

Edgy Street Fashion With An Attitude In Downtown Los Angeles Artist District

January 28, 2016
Black leather jacket and wolves fashion shoot in downtown los angeles with street photographer, John Ussenko and model Janelle Carroll.

If you’re going to do a photo shoot in downtown Los Angeles, you definitely have to get some murals in the shot. This place is filled with some of the most amazing graffiti murals in the artist district. To me, downtown LA equals urban art. This is where I go to be immersed in it. And if you take a moment to appreciate the art, you’ll realize how massive some of these pieces are. It blows my mind away. Kudos to all those artists who run the streets looking for the perfect canvas to express their soul.

Salt Air Bistro By The Awesome Minds of Patti and Dave Reiss

January 25, 2016
Lifestyle photographer, John Ussenko randomly walks into Salt Air bistro and discovers awesome people and delicious a brunch menu.

Running around with all my creative energy burns like a million calories and after a few hours, my brain stops functioning properly.  Photo shoots can be exhausting especially if you forget to eat breakfast. It’s around that weird time called brunch, the in-between of breakfast and lunch that I have a difficult time understanding. I pass 4 other restaurants because they’re too crowded but something catches my eye about this place.  I notice right away  when I step inside Salt Air bistro, right off Abbot Kinney, that it’s so different than all the other places on the block.

Maybe it’s the white cloth napkins or the white marble counter tops and tables. Maybe it’s because Carol Ann Emquies of Blinken Interiors designed it. Or maybe it’s the awesome duo, Patti and Dave over at Reiss Company that had something to do with it. I can’t nail down what actually grabbed my attention but I have to admit, it makes me feel good being here.

Roberto Cavalli Rumbles In Long Beach

January 22, 2016
Edgy street fashion photographer, John Ussenko uses rusty iron with Roberto Cavalli black leather shoes in the shipping docks of Long Beach.

I’ve been waiting for these bad boys for so long. I took my Cavalli’s out of the box and drooled but the most difficult part is putting them back. I know, right?! Trust me, my other shoes are wearing thin and I want to wear these right here and now but I can’t. Not that I can’t, it’s more like I don’t want to. I really don’t want to scuffed them up. You might be asking, why?  Well…I’ve been thinking about doing a photo shoot with designer shoes for quite a while. At the time, I really didn’t know which designer to choose from and it was just by chance the Cavalli’s were on sale. So I grabbed a pair.  Come to think of  it, I should’ve grabbed two.

Surfing 10-12ft Barrels At Huntington Beach Pier

January 19, 2016
Lifestyle photographer, John Ussenko captures a surfer in a barrel at the Huntington beach pier during a 10-12ft swell.

I heard on the news that 10-12ft swells were hitting today so I decided to grab my gear and check it out. I’ve heard about Huntington Beach being a great place to surf.  Granted, I’m not a surfer but I played in the waves of Bali, Phuket, and Costa Rica to know what a good wave looks like.  And today didn’t let me down. The 10-12ft swells definitely made the difference. I arrived on the pier around 10:55 am and walked towards Ruby’s Diner, I know, kind of cool to have a burger joint at the end of the pier.   I  already attached my long lens to my camera so all I had to do was setup in a place where I thought I could capture some great shots.  I don’t know any of the surfers but if you do, just let me know and I’ll make sure to give them a copy.

Ames Bros Meet John Varvatos In The Alamitos Bay Harbor

January 16, 2016
John Varvatos and Psyho Bunny clothing fashion shoot at the Long Beach harbor with lifestyle and fashion photographer, John Ussenko.

A fashion shoot in a harbor? Say what?! With so many harbors within a 30 minute drive between Long Beach and Dana Point, this happens to be the first time I’m actually shooting in one. I’m guilty. I should’ve would’ve could’ve done it sooner, I know. Glad that it’s happening now. By random selection, I ended up in this harbor, somewhere between Seal Beach and the south end of Long Beach, I think it’s called Alamitos Bay. I will do a better job of writing down the location because I have no idea where I am.  The sun feels nice though. It’s quiet and no one is around to kick me off the dock. It’s going to be a good day.  And if you want to grab that Ames Bros Vintage Black tshirt, it’s still available and on sale HERE.  Grab this $20 HERE for signing up and that makes the tshirt free.

Lifestyle Gear Means Getting Up Close With A Diesel 10 Bar Watch

January 12, 2016
Diesel 10 Bar watch accessory and lifestyle photographer, John Ussenko on location in Orange County, Socal.

Some of you might not know this but I don’t wear watches, much less a Diesel watch. I borrowed this one from my brother’s dresser when he wasn’t looking.  I have nothing against watches and find the clock on my phone works just fine. However, when I do get a chance to have a photo shoot with some Diesel watches, I’m all over it.  There’s something about the lost art of watch making that attracts me to them. I get so deep within the inner workings of the watch, I find myself in a macro world of gears and a bar that goes tick, tick, tick.  Everything up close looks gigantic. I feel it brings a whole new look and emotion to the image.

As The Crow Flies From Belarus To Old Town Irvine

January 8, 2016
Belarus model doing a fashion shoot in Old Town Irvine with street fashion photographer, John Ussenko.

A good friend, Katya, is visiting from Belarus. Don’t worry, I had to look it up too. I definitely want to travel and shoot some amazing street fashion there.  Not sure if it’s anxiety or what but my heartbeat quickens ever so slightly when I think about all the new places in Belarus to discover and shoot; but enough of dreaming.  I met Katya at my brother’s place. We chit-chatted about random things like health, weather, drinks, food, exercise, shopping but the energy quickly changed when I mentioned about getting into street fashion photography.  Next thing you know, we’re doing a photo shoot. Winning!

A Little Love For My Bad Boy Carlsson Mercedes Benz

January 4, 2016
Lifestyle photo shoot with Mercedes Benz from Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach and photographed by lifestyle photographer, John Ussenko at the South Coast Mall.

Did you know there is a hidden network, crafted by weird little white-bluish men and women, trying to keep you from taking photos of their beautiful architecture? Seriously. No joke. They disguise themselves as security-renta-cops and when they spot you, they’ll ask you to leave and if you don’t, they’ll threaten your creative space by calling the real cops. But here’s the strange part. Basically, you can’t take a photo while physically being on their property but you can take a photo of their building if you’re off the property. Does that make any sense?
