I’m not too far from Laguna Beach and I think it’s such a neat little beach town. The locals are cool. The food is great. And if you take the time and explore, you’ll find hidden gems everywhere. This turned out to be an adventure since we really didn’t know where we wanted to shoot. And when you have a model that’s down to earth and adventurous, it really makes all the difference. We started with some strong organic coffee and then got down to the fun stuff, shooting. Like I mentioned in a previous post, coffee before a photo shoot makes all the difference. Well, for me it does.
The hunger to fill my creative void keeps me constantly finding new things to shoot. My Spyderco blade and my brother’s Michael Kors watch comes in handy when trying to fill that void. At times, that same creative passion keeps me awake throughout the night. I truly love expressing my art through photography. This was a freestyle hand held photo shoot. The photos came out better than expected.
I love exploring new locations especially when they randomly appear and make you say, “wtf?” When I pulled off the highway to get gas at a tiny place called Chiriaco Summit, this came out of left field. It appears to be over a dozen tanks scattered in the area. I thought my eyes were seeing things. Com’on. Tanks? Tanks?! Tanks! Seriously. What are these tanks doing out here in the first place. How the heck did they even get them there? All of a sudden, Curious George popped in my head and said, “Stop the car dork and go explore.” So I did.
I enjoyed this shoot a lot and hanging out in downtown Laguna Beach is a blast. It’s interesting how certain things will give you flashbacks, specifically this photo shoot. I started to reminisce about the time I moved to a new school during 7th grade. Moving = New city. New school. No friends. Medieval times. Yeah, it really sucked. And it didn’t help that I had the classic comb over and looked like a dork. However, my path as a loner changed during lunch period.
I’ve been into sport coats for quite some time now. I believe they go well with most outfits. You can dress them up with a scarf and nice shoes or dress down with a Crown of Laurel snapback and your fav street kicks. I own nine sport coats and four of them are designed by Simon Spurr. He’s a great designer and most of his coats catch my eye. This particular wifi photo shoot was a tough one to set up.
I normally stay away from carbs but every now and then, you need to give in. I’ve been to Cucina Enoteca in the Irvine Spectrum a few times and have to admit, I’ve enjoyed every visit. Today is the first time I’m trying the linguine dish. When the dish arrived at my table, I was surprised to see so many clams. Hoorah! When I’m feeling like some carbs, I’m definitely going back just for this dish. If you like a ton of clams with your linguine, give this a try. It might surprise you as well.
It’s really awesome to setup a fun shoot like this. I enjoy experimenting with different props and ideas. I believe the most important aspect of shooting is being able to listen to the model and share her vision as well. After all, no matter how you look at it, it’s a team effort. It’s about having fun, laughing, and being productive at the same time.
I setup my macro photography gear and shot some of my bracelets. This was a last minute shoot. I shot them without any cleaning. Maybe that’s not the best way to go but I honestly didn’t want to get them wet. Shooting fashion accessories is always a blast. I tend to use a different approach than most photographers. Personally, I want the jewelry to fill up the entire shot. The closer, the better.
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Broad for sharing your art collection with the masses. Seriously people, here’s the backstory; all that art in the Broad Museum belong to Eli and Edythe’s personal art collection. Personal, like, in their house where only their friends and guest could see it. And what a collection it is. Now, everyone has access to their art. That’s so cool. It’s awesome to know you can enter a museum for free and see incredible artwork by some of the world’s finest artist. The lines are currently long since the grand opening in October but it’s worth the trip and the long wait. You have to check it out.
Shooting your subjects up close and personal, otherwise known as macro photography, brings you into the realm of abstract thought. My mind started wondering about why the planets and stars within our Universe literally float on a dimensional plane that we cannot see, but it’s there. No time for those thoughts right now. I shook them off and left my mind focus on the core essence of the watch.
