Today, I’m on a mission to find new locations to shoot. I’m cruising north on PCH towards Seal Beach and see this cool mural by Derick Montez. It’s located in the back of an ominous pink motel but thank goodness it’s during daylight hours so I should be safe. Creepy motel for real.
Today, is different. Most mornings, I wake up to the idea of where to shoot and as of now, nothing comes to mind. Maybe coffee will help. I jump on the 405 and stop at some random place on the east side of Long Beach for a cup of organic coffee, which by the way, was made incorrectly. Not that I’m a pour-over-coffee-snob, I just want my coffee to be made correctly.
I’m in a great mood and sharing some of my art, personal fashion styles, and brands with all of you. Plain and simple. And I love what I did with this fashion shoot. Best one yet! I discovered this narrow alley in Huntington Beach off the PCH. It was mid-day and time to try out a few concepts with shadows. This is one of my very first Simon Spurr sportcoats that I purchased way back in the day. It has that punk rock kind of look and of course my friends can always find me when it’s dark outside. The Body Rags tshirt happens to be one of my favorite designs and you’ll see me in it a lot. I’ll have to remember not to do so many fashion shoots with it on though. If you’re interested, you can buy all this gear HERE.
A fashion shoot in a harbor? Say what?! With so many harbors within a 30 minute drive between Long Beach and Dana Point, this happens to be the first time I’m actually shooting in one. I’m guilty. I should’ve would’ve could’ve done it sooner, I know. Glad that it’s happening now. By random selection, I ended up in this harbor, somewhere between Seal Beach and the south end of Long Beach, I think it’s called Alamitos Bay. I will do a better job of writing down the location because I have no idea where I am. The sun feels nice though. It’s quiet and no one is around to kick me off the dock. It’s going to be a good day. And if you want to grab that Ames Bros Vintage Black tshirt you can get it HERE. If you want to know where I buy my gear, it’s HERE.
I’m starting this year with a bang. A lime green bang. I need to break these bonds and get back to my roots of artistic expression. Have to let go of all that holds me down and just let it out. I’m looking forward to a new year. I’m finding a rhythm to this madness and discovering how fun it is. I found this neat little spot tucked away in a parking structure in Newport Beach. It was mid-day and they forgot to turn off the lights. Winner.
My solo photo shoots are challenging and present technical limitations but overall, I’m happy how the photos turn out. And just for the record, all my clothes are purchased by me either online HERE or in the store. My dad had a better way to put it, he would say, “Nothing is free in life, not even the air we breathe.” He’s a smart guy.
I love exploring new locations especially when they randomly appear and make you say, “wtf?” When I pulled off the highway to get gas at a tiny place called Chiriaco Summit, this came out of left field. It appears to be over a dozen tanks scattered in the area. I thought my eyes were seeing things. Com’on. Tanks? Tanks?! Tanks! Seriously. What are these tanks doing out here in the first place. How the heck did they even get them there? All of a sudden, Curious George popped in my head and said, “Stop the car dork and go explore.” So I did.
I’ve been into sport coats for quite some time now. I believe they go well with most outfits. You can dress them up with a scarf and nice shoes or dress down with a Crown of Laurel snapback and your fav street kicks. I own nine sport coats and four of them are designed by Simon Spurr. He’s a great designer and most of his coats catch my eye. This particular wifi photo shoot was a tough one to set up.
I setup my macro photography gear and shot some of my bracelets. This was a last minute shoot. I shot them without any cleaning. Maybe that’s not the best way to go but I honestly didn’t want to get them wet. Shooting fashion accessories is always a blast. I tend to use a different approach than most photographers. Personally, I want the jewelry to fill up the entire shot. The closer, the better.

Trying to shop for a pair of jeans can get really tiring, especially when you’re looking for a new brand to try out. I was about to give up when I decided to run into Nordstrom on my way home. I promised myself this is the last stop. After rushing through the men’s section, I came across Mavi Jeans. They have a stretchy-spandex kind of feel. Super comfortable. I mean, really really comfortable. It’s difficult to explain but the material they use seem to be a blend of 70% cotton and 30% stretchy stuff. I’m more of a jeans type of guy then slacks, so why not.
