After a long day, sometimes you just want to eat pizza. It’s simple. It’s easy. And it’s take out. How can you beat that? And as far as I know, I’m not allergic to gluten. The main reason why I order gluten-free is for the chewy dough. I have no idea if all gluten-free pizza taste like this but I’m enjoying it. The crust is chewy and the pepperoni is so crispy. The red sauce isn’t too thick either. If you’re interested in trying something different, give Spin Pizza a try.
Running around with all my creative energy burns like a million calories and after a few hours, my brain stops functioning properly. Photo shoots can be exhausting especially if you forget to eat breakfast. It’s around that weird time called brunch, the in-between of breakfast and lunch that I have a difficult time understanding. I pass 4 other restaurants because they’re too crowded but something catches my eye about this place. I notice right away when I step inside Salt Air bistro, right off Abbot Kinney, that it’s so different than all the other places on the block.
Maybe it’s the white cloth napkins or the white marble counter tops and tables. Maybe it’s because Carol Ann Emquies of Blinken Interiors designed it. Or maybe it’s the awesome duo, Patti and Dave over at Reiss Company that had something to do with it. I can’t nail down what actually grabbed my attention but I have to admit, it makes me feel good being here.
I normally stay away from carbs but every now and then, you need to give in. I’ve been to Cucina Enoteca in the Irvine Spectrum a few times and have to admit, I’ve enjoyed every visit. Today is the first time I’m trying the linguine dish. When the dish arrived at my table, I was surprised to see so many clams. Hoorah! When I’m feeling like some carbs, I’m definitely going back just for this dish. If you like a ton of clams with your linguine, give this a try. It might surprise you as well.
I like cooking at home but find myself going out more often, especially during photo shoots. Taste on Melrose was just down the street from our shoot and I was starting to get hungry. I’ve never been here before, so why not. Today I skipped the poached eggs, my fav breakfast dish, and ordered the brioche cinnamon french toast with fresh lemon wedge, powdered sugar and a side of mint with fresh berries.
When I’m tired and feel like some pizza, I tend to grab a gluten-free one at Spin Pizza. I’m not allergic to gluten, well, I don’t think I am. How do I know? All I can say is that I feel better after eating it and my stomach doesn’t bloat up. Maybe it’s all in my mind. I have friends that are highly allergic to gluten and they definitely know when they eat it. Personally, I like the chewy texture of gluten-free dough.
For some of you, a poached egg is just a poached egg. For me, well, it has to be cooked just right. Not too soft, where you see that gross uncooked egg white that looks like snot or when it’s overcooked like a hard-boiled egg. Personally, I like the yolk to be consistent with honey, it has to slowly run out when you cut into it. I’ve been here at Zinc Cafe in downtown Los Angeles a few times, which is much better than their Corona Del Mar location. I prefer breakfast not to be greasy or too heavy and knowing that I have a long day of shooting ahead of me, I find myself ordering their poached eggs on gluten free bread. Hits the spot every time.
I’ve been here to Bear Flag in Newport Beach quite a few times and each time I order the same items. What can I say, I’m a creature of habit. It does help that these dishes are some of my favorite things to grub on. Personally, it’s a little on the wet side of oil and trust me, you’ll see a thick layer of it on the bottom of your take-out poke containers. But honestly, who cares. I keep coming back for more.
